Tonight we went to treasure Island to meet our old friends, The Schifferers, who came all the way from Tennessee to have a little vacation here in Vegas. We got to meet up with them and had a really nice dinner at the Buffet at Treasure Island. We had a really nice chat with them and catching up after all these years. we haven't seen each other for about 13 years. The Schifferers worked for Bechtel in Bandung years ago before I went to BYUH. While in working in Bandung, they served in my branch. Heinrich served as my branch president's counselor and Kelli was my young woman president. When I left home to go to Byu Hawaii, they were still in Bandung working for Bechtel. But not long after I left, the economy went downhill. Not only the economy went bad but also the nation's security went really really bad. The Government feared for their safety that they had to be evacuated to Singapore. The first year I was at BYUH, I still got in touch with them. We wrote letters to each other back and forth. But somehow we lost contact because of school, work, and other things. In addition to that, The Schifferers have been all over the world. The last time I heard from them in 1998, they were in Budapest. I thought about them from time to time. I wrote letters and Christmas cards for them but I never mail them because I wasn't sure if they still kept the same address. At the beginning of this year, I wrote an e-mail to them to their old e-mail address (their only e-mail address I have). I didn't have really high hope that they would write me back because I wasn't sure if they still kept the same e-mail address. But to my surprise, they responded to my e-mail so quickly. I was so happy and excited that I finally got in touch with them again. We finally met up. Meeting with them brought so many fond memories. Kelli was my young woman President. We became a really good friends. She had thought me a lot and I frankly learned a lot from her during my youth. She was the one who introduced me to the "Work and Glory" for the first time. She also was the first one who taught me how to make brownies from scratch. We had so much fun together serving in the young women.

While the Schiferrers lived in Bandung, Heinrich served in the presidency in the branch. He was the first counselor in the presidency, while my brother, Bobby, served as the second counselor. Heinrich and Bobby got very close not only because they served in the presidency, but also because they had become such a good friends. Bobby always translated for Heinrich in every occasion that he had to give a speech or when he conversed with church members.
